The first skill development university of North India is going to be in Chamkaur Sahib in Ropar district, announced by Punjab government. The announcement was recently made in the budget speech by finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
The establishment of skill development university would be the first institute in the region. There were only two skill development universities in India, said, state technical education minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who is also the MLA from Chamkaur Sahib constituency as quoted by TOI.
The new varsity would be set up on 100 acres of land and would generate an expenditure of Rs 100 crore.
