The Skill Development Ministry has proposed to the HRD Ministry to authorise the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) to carry out its own examination and award secondary and higher certificates to ITI trainees.
The aim of this initiative, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, is to open pathways for candidates from ITI who want to attain higher academic qualifications along with vocational qualifications.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, he said, currently academic equivalence of 10th and 12th classes are being provided to trainees of ITI through credit transfer model by National Institute of Open Schooling under the HRD ministry.
The Skill Development Ministry "has proposed to HRD Ministry to authorise the NCVT to conduct its own examination and award secondary and senior secondary certificates to trainees of ITIs," he said.
