Displaying their best performance, Jamia Milia Islamia’s Cricket, Football (Boys) and Basketball teams have been declared winner at just concluded BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) 2017 at Pilani, one of the biggest sporting events in the country.
The three teams today met Vice Chancellor, Talat Ahmad with their trophies and medals. Ahmad congratulated them on their stellar performance at a felicitation function held in the university.
The Vice Chancellor said that they will become a source of inspiration for other students to not only do well in their studies but also in sports. He said that JMI has very good sporting facilities and coaches and asked students to take their full advantage.
Registering its first victory in five-year, the Cricket team led by Pranav Mehrotra, an MBA student defeated BK BITS, Pilani by 1 wicket, chasing a target of 87 runs.
Venkatesh Sharma, the highest wicket-taker for JMI, took 8 wickets during the entire tournament.
Led by Hanoomant, an MFA student, the Basketball team defeated Hansraj College, Delhi in the final by 9 points.
Football (Boys) team of JMI defeated Sri Venkateswara College by 5-2 in the finals. The team was captained by Anuj Sharma, studying in the Political Science Dept.
All the three teams were given BOSM, 2017 trophy for their respective events, gold medals and certificates.
This was the 32nd edition of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani BOSM in which nearly 60 colleges and universities from across the country participated in the 5-day sporting event.
