The Haryana government today said the Diploma Entrance Test (DET) for engineering will be discontinued in the state from the 2016-17 session onwards.

Admissions to diploma (engineering) course in government and government-aided polytechnic institutions in the state would be made on the basis of merit of qualifying examination, Haryana Technical Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said in a release here.

Stressing that the decision was to facilitate students and their guardians, he said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has issued directions to conduct admissions in the 2016-17 session through online system on the pattern of industrial training institutes.

The minister said earlier students had to fill an online form for admission to engineering diploma in polytechnics after passing the class X examination.

Admission was given on the basis of a written examination and the entire process was time consuming and costly, he added.
