Rajasthan has registered a record growth of 23.23% in the enrolment of girls in colleges which has outnumbered boys during the academic year of 2016- 17, according to a report.

Of the total enrolment for colleges in Rajasthan for the academic year 2016-17, 4.67 lakh are girls and 4.65 lakh are boys, according to the Department of Higher Education report.

The total rise in the enrolment is 23.92% as compared to the previous year, the report said.

In 2015-16, the total number of enrolment was 7.52 lakh, that included 3.82 lakh boys with 4.4% growth and 3.70 lakh girls with 7.8% growth whereas in the academic year 2005-06, the total number of enrolment was 3.27 lakh with 1.26 lakh girls.

Fifty four girls had enrolled for every 100 boys in the year 2000-2001 which has in the year 2016-17 increased to 101 for every 100 boys, which is the highest so far, the report said.

The first choice of students remained the Arts stream as 65.37% student enrolled for Arts (29% boys and 34% girls), followed science which was opted by 21.07% students (12% boys and 9% girls, the annual report of the department said.
