Amid controversy on Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) in JNU, the GSCASH election committee has announced the schedule for polls for electing four student representatives.
According to the schedule issued by the four-member election committee, headed by chairperson Bhagat Singh Saini, polling and counting will take place on September 22 and the results will be announced the next day.
The poll schedule comes three days after the Registrar issued a circular to unions of students, teachers and employees announcing reconstitution of GSCASH as Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) under UGC Regulations, 2015, a move that caused furore among the stakeholders.
As per the UGC provisions - there is no mention of ICC having elected teacher representatives and other staff but only those nominated by the administration, whereas GSCASH had all elected members.
Several national women's rights bodies also today joined the opposition by writing a letter to JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar.
The circular - dated September 12 - had also directed to put "on hold" any elections to GSCASH until further notice.
But GSCASH, an independent body, is going ahead with the elections as the circular was not addressed to them.
The JNU executive council (EC) in a meeting scheduled on Monday will take up the implementation of the 2015 UGC rules.
