All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is going to close around 800 engineering colleges across India.
The reason is being stated as there are no enough takers of their seats and admission are reducing in these institutions each year.
AICTE has also asked these institutions to submit a report by the second week of September.
AICTE authorities have stated that “there are less than 30% enrollments in these colleges in past five years hence have been asked to shut down. The decision has been taken after studying details of intake at all colleges across the country in the last five years,” According to Indian Express.
Karnataka consists of 600 colleges and there is no declaration on any list of colleges to shut down.
The country has 10,361 engineering colleges. Maharashtra has around 1500, Tamil Nadu has 1300, UP has 1165 and AP has around 800.
The 37 lakh engineering seats, around 27 lakh seats have been vacant.
