Around 1.28 crore students of Gujarat are set to participate in a state-wide painting competition on the subject "Mahatma Gandhi and Cleanliness" on January 30.

The painting competition is in tune with ongoing "Clean India" movement and is aimed at educating children about the benefits of cleanliness at an early age, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel said in a press release here on Friday.

Around 1.28 crore students from primary schools to colleges in Gujarat would take part in the competition to commemorate "Mahatma Gandhi Nirvan Din".

Apart from schools under the Gujarat state board, schools under the CBSE and ICSE would also be included in the competition, the release said.

During a review meeting today, Patel announced an allocation of Rs 17.5 crore to organise the event across the state, for which prizes worth more than Rs 51 lakh would be given away to winners of the competition.
