Maharashtra government has made it compulsory to recite the preamble to the Constitution on a daily basis in schools in the state.
A government resolution here said this would apply to schools of every board and medium. The preamble will have to be read by the students in the morning assembly when the school starts. It should be also printed on the wall or on a permanent board at the entrance.
"Schools should also hold quizzes, essay competitions, drawing competitions, slogan/posters-making and chorus singing competitions on the (theme of) Constitution," the GR said.
"The intention is to make the students aware of their responsibilities and duties," a senior official from the Education Department said.
