Expressing worry over rapid population growth, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said his government was popularising education among women to bring down reproduction rate.
The reproduction rate is 3.7 at present but it has been 2 per cent among girls who have cleared matriculation, Kumar said at a social function here.
The CM said that in order to keep the reproduction rate level, the state government was spreading education among women. He said 1000 schools would be opened in the state to ensure that all the girls get education till matriculation.Every high school would have facility for plus two education.
Underlining importance of education, the CM said if a woman is literate, she will never agree for pre-natal test and killing of girl child. Kumar emphasized on correcting imbalance in male and female ratio. Against 1000 males there are 917 females in the state at present.The CM who was attending a function of women self help group during his “Sewa Yatra” here, stressed on spread of women self help groups for spreading education among women.
He highlighted steps like free distribution of uniform, bicycle, mid-day meal and making available books to motivate students to go to schools.Earlier, the CM offered prayer at Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya for peace and prosperity in the state.
