Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam on Friday said that Delhi government''s proposal to reserve 90 per cent seats in the government funded colleges of Delhi University for the local students smacked of “anti-migrant mindset” which will harm the cosmopolitan character of the national capital.
In a letter to Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia, Nirupam, Lok Sabha MP from Mumbai North, said,”Instead of addressing the education needs of Delhi, you have chosen to appease the minority Delhi population for narrow political gains.
It is well-known that the high educational standards of Delhi University colleges have attracted and produced several academicians and scholars from all over the country.”
There is a considerable resentment amongst the students over the proposed decision, he said. “It is hoped that wiser counsel will prevail and you will refrain from taking this decision any further.” Congress will oppose the decision, he added.
