The 44th foundation day of Guru Nanak Dev University was celebrated on Sunday in the presence of noted personalities from the field of education.

Speaking on the occasion, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra observed that ethical and moral values need to be inculcated among youths to make them an asset to the society.

He also underscored the need for competent faculty with versatile knowledge to maintain standard of higher education.

Professor Deepak Pental, former Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University and Rattan Singh Jaggi, professor emeritus at Punjab University,Patiala also expressed their views on the occasion.

Vohra said suitable changes in education system need to be made to develop communication abilities and innovative skills among the students, instead of imparting only knowledge.

He said “our education system should produce such professionals who are creative enough to help further propagate the art of innovative thinking.” Proper marketing should also be done to suitably place those who are passing out, Vohra said.

He also noted that for betterment of both the states, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir need more and more MoUs needed to be done in the field of higher education by Guru Nanak Dev University.
