Peeved over some of its members being denied promotion, over 80 per cent of AIIMS faculty members, represented by the Faculty Association of AIIMS, today boycotted the convocation ceremony.
19 members of the association were denied promotions in the last assessment of the institute this year.
The faculty association has written a letter to AIIMS Director R C Deka saying, "Despite our repeated requests, the AIIMS administration is yet to call a governing body meeting to review the case of our 19 colleagues whose promotions under the assessment promotion scheme have been withheld this year."
The letter says FAIIMS has resolved to "follow a policy of non-cooperation with the AIIMS administration, including boycott of official and social functions and forthcoming convocations etc, until the issue is resolved satisfactorily."
Some faculty members also expressed dissatisfaction over temporary appointments being made, overlooking several senior professors, after the retirement of the former Dean on July 31.
