Government has decided to set up a Central University for Himalayan Technology in Uttarakhand, a promise made by BJP in its election manifesto.
The announcement was made today by HRD Minister Smriti Irani at a conference of state secretaries on higher and technical education here.
The varsity would have international faculty devoted to study of the Himalayan region and research works.
Showing its keen interest for the Himalayas and exploring its rich biodiversity, BJP had promised such an institute along with national mission on Himalayas and a Himalayan sustainability fund.
