Rajasthan government on Monday issued an order banning new admissions in the Jodhpur National University (JNU), which awarded more than 25,000 fake degrees to students, with immediate effect for the academic session 2015-16.

A departmental enquiry constituted after a case registered with the Special Operation Group-Police (SOG-P)on the fake degree scam has recommended the ban on admission in the university till the probe is underway, an official statement said here.

Since 2009, the Jodhpur-located University has awarded 38,000 degrees and marksheets to students of which 25,003 were found fake, Education Minister K C Saraf had told state Assembly in April.

Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Pawan Kumar Goyal said the enquiry committee had found that there was gross violation of University Act by the Jodhpur National University leading to the fake degree scam.
