What is New About GATE 2017?
GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an online examination which is held every year to determine the level of understanding of the applicant about the subjects related to Engineering, Technology. Architecture and other postgraduate subjects. The score of this examination is considered as an important milestone in the admission process of post graduate programs in IIT, NIT, and other centrally funded institutions. The exam is a joint effort of seven IIT and IISC in the rotation. The 2017 examination is being organized by IIT-Roorkee. The examination is scheduled for February 4 to 5, 2017 and February 11 to 12, 2017.

For the 2017 examination, there are several important changes that were made in the last year. These changes were essential keeping the increasing competition in the field along with the advancements in the technology. The following details will give you the information about the changes.

Introduction of a new section

The XE section which is also known as the engineering sciences will have a new section on atmospheric and oceanic sciences. From A to H, where H is the new section, the paper will have eight sections that the student has to cover.

International students now eligible for the exam

Students from countries including Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, and UAE can now apply for the examination.

Changes in Application Process

• Previously, the students have to choose the second option for the examination center in the same zone as the first one. Now there is no restriction and the student can choose any center around the country.
• During the application process, the thumb impression is mandatory. This step will avoid any possibilities of fake attendance at the exam.
• In case the candidate has completed the qualifying degree in 2016 or before, s/he has to upload the scanned copy of degree of completion or final year or final semester mark sheet.
• If the student is in the final year of the completion of the qualifying degree, the previous semester mark sheet along with the certificate letter from the institute as a proof of eligibility has to be uploaded with the application form.
