West Bengal to focus on education of girls: Education Minister Partha Chatterjee

Ensuring safety and welfare of women, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Tuesday said that the State government is determined focus on the girl students.

“We will give special focus to girl students and those coming from economically weaker sections. The government will also look into excellence in education as well as employability of the passing out students,” said Chatterjee, on the sidelines of the 10th Convocation of St Xavier’s College.

The education minister’s remark comes two years after the launch Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign launched by Government of India, aimed at generating awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services meant for girls.

The BBBP scheme was introduced in October 2014 to address the issue of declining child sex ratio.
