NGO, Akshaya Patra to Provide Nutritious Food to School Students: Sisodia

The Delhi government plans to rope in NGO Akshaya Patra to provide nutritious food to school students, after observing the series of incidents happened in schools over contaminated food, As per Indian Express report.

On August 9, 2017, in the Delhi assembly, Manish Sisodia, Delhi Education Minister acknowledged the quality issue in the mid-day meal schemes in government schools, and affirmed that the NGO will provide the food to the school students soon.

The legislators of Delhi highlighted the incidents where the rats, lizards and insects have been found in the meals and have been to the children over the years.

While mentioning about the plan to provide quality food, Sisodia mentioned that the NGO, Akshaya Patra does not run kitchens in Delhi and provides professional services in other states.

The proposal was earlier rejected by the LG on setting up of kitchen and nutritious food, thus the trustee of the NGO will rent their own land to setup a kitchen in Delhi
