JMI Registrar Receives President’s Medal for Distinguished Service

Senior Police Officer and Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia, AP Siddiqui, received President’s Medal for Distinguished Service announced earlier on occasion of country’s 68th Republic Day.

Siddiqui, a 1991 batch IPS Officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, received a medal and a citation signed by the then President, Pranab Mukherjee.

The citation read that the President, in recognition of Siddiqui’s distinguished service, is pleased to confer the medal on him.

Congratulating Siddiqui, Vice-Chancellor, JMI, Talat Ahmad said, “JMI is proud to have such a decorated and competent officer as Registrar. The university is benefitting from his vast experience as an administrator”.

Siddiqui, who has been Registrar of JMI on deputation since October last year, is also a recipient of President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2008.
Before moving to Jamia, Siddiqui was Addl. Director General of Police (Headquarter) in Himachal Pradesh.

President's Police Medal is a decoration awarded to members of law enforcement in India for distinguished service in the police or in central police or security organisations.
Individuals must be prior recipients of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and must have held that medal for at least six years.

Siddiqui has a wide exposure in key capacities in government as also teaching experience in the Law faculty.

Before joining the Police Services, Siddiqui, an LLM from Aligarh Muslim University, taught in the Law faculty in Jodhpur and Jabalpur universities as Assistant Professor. 
He is also gold medalist in BSc (Zoology) in 1986.

Besides serving as District Police Chief in three districts in Himachal Pradesh, he was also Superintendent of Police – Anti Corruption.

In 2001 he was part of the UN’s Mission in Kosovo. He has also served at the Narcotics Control Bureau in Delhi from 2004-09, on deputation.
