Jammu and Kashmir: PM's Special Scholarship Scheme benefits 13,014 students

More than 13,000 students Jammu and Kashmir  have been benefitted from the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme, according to the union government. 

While Human Resources Development Minister of State, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey passed on the information in connection with the several initiatives taken by Government to the Rajya Sabha, he pointed out that the main objective of the scholarship scheme is to encourage the youth from Jammu and Kashmir to pursue higher education. 

“As a result of various initiatives, including creation of 10 supernumerary quota in Engineering Colleges, more number of students are taking admission in professional courses,” Pandey said.

Objectives of the scholasrship scheme:  
Building capacities of the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
Educating, enabling and empowering them to compete in the normal course.
Enhancing and formulating employment opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir.
Boosting employment potential of students of Jammu & Kashmir

Eligibility criteria: 
Students having domicile of Jammu & Kashmir.
Passing 10+2 examination from J&K Board or CBSE located in J&K.
Only those willing to study outside the State of J&K.
Whose family Income is Rs. 6.00 Lakh or below per annum.

Highlights 

Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme envisages to provide 5000 fresh scholarships on yearly basis.  

More than 13,000 students Jammu and Kashmir  have been benefitted from the scheme. 

1680 students have benefitted from the scheme in 2014-2015.
