Jamia MillIa Islamia will organise the TED talk on October 16, 2017 at the university’s Dr MA Ansari Auditorium from 10 am.

The independently organised event, licensed by TED, will feature local voices and TED Talks videos under the theme of ‘Igniting Minds’.

The day-long TEDxJMI organised by a team of passionate students aims at bringing together bright minds to give talks that are idea-focused, and on a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and provoke a conversation on issues that matter.

Speakers include filmmaker and journalist Kavita Bahl, co-founder of Vyome Biosciences and Scientist at NII Rajesh S Gokhale, JNU Professor, scientist and President of Indian Academy of Sciences Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, Food stylist and Chef Sadaf Hussain, Senior journalist Saeed Naqvi, Programme Director of the Gandhi fellowship program Vivek Sharma, and young entrepreneur and founder of Infeedo, Tanmay Jain.

TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted to ‘ideas worth spreading’. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. Previous TED speakers include Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

TEDx, launched in 2009, is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x stands for independently organised TED event. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have been featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe.

TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; and TED Books, short e-books on powerful ideas.
