HPU to go with SC ruling on faculty recruitment
The executive council of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) on Wednesday decided to go with the SC ruling of making NET qualification mandatory for recruitment of teachers in universities.

HPU was earlier considering relaxation of qualification for the candidates who obtained Ph D degree before 2009.

The council which discussed the issue in detail also decided to re-advertise all the posts as per National Eligibility Test (NET) qualification, university officials told reporters.

The Supreme Court recently upheld the regulations framed by the University Grants Commission prescribing minimum qualifications for national and state level entrance tests for appointment of teachers/assistant professor in colleges.

About 740 posts of teachers are lying vacant in the HPU and government colleges in the state and process was on to fill 475 posts but all these posts would be re-advertised and thus the recruitment would be further delayed.

The university council, however, did not take any decision on the fee committee report and decided to refer it to the finance committee, they said.

The report of the committee headed by former High Court judge V K Sharma, probing the sudden hike in the university fee structure was submitted in October 2014 but no action was taken on it, neither the report made public.

The student organisations like SFI and ABVP have been demanding for the report to be made public.

The tardy implementation of RUSA (Rashtriya Uchhtar Shiksha Abhiyan) in under-graduate courses was also discussed at the university meeting and it was decided to constitute a high level committee for effective implementation of RUSA.
