Seminar on 'Arabi-Malayalam' in Kerala University
A national seminar on ''Mappila Malayalam'' (Arabi Malayalam), a hybrid language having the linguistic elements of both Malayalam and Arabic, will be held here in April.

The seminar is being conducted on the topic ''Linguistic Importance of Mappila Malayalam'' on April 22 and 23 and is being held at the Department of Linguistics in Kerala University as part the department''s golden jubilee celebrations.

The two-day event is proposed to assess the present status of the dialect and its linguistic and sociological aspects, Head of the Department Dr S A Shanavas said in a release here today.

The dialect is largely spoken by the Muslim community members in the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur, he said, adding, it has a rich tradition of literature also.
