Feedback being sought on policy for distance learning: IGNOU
Indira Gandhi National Open University, which is working on a policy for open and distance learning, has put up a draft in public domain seeking feedback from different stake holders.

'The HRD Ministry had entrusted IGNOU with the responsibility of developing draft policy on open and distance learning and modalities for online courses," a senior university official said.

"We are seeking feedback from stakeholders in three broad categories-practitioners and experts, learners and employers.

"With the dissolution of the Distance Education Council of the IGNOU, the regulatory powers on ODL is currently vested with the University Grants Commission(UGC)," he added.

The varsity in the process of preparing a draft on "Promoting Open and Distance Learning and Online Courses" for the New Education Policy (NEP) which is being formed by the government appointed experts had last year organised a two-day national consultative meeting in which 55 papers were presented on the best practices adopted by distance learning institutions and ODL philosophy and operations followed there.

Besides IGNOU there are 14 State Open Universities in the country offering degree, diploma and certificate courses.
